The Michael Enzle Annual Memorial Prize for the Best Graduate Student Peer-Reviewed
Publication in the Area of Research Ethics and Human Participant Protection in Research
In 2008 an award was established to honour the outstanding contributions of Michael Enzle (1948-2007) to the field of research ethics and to celebrate his life, and continue his work, in fostering excellence in the ethical conduct of research. This award reflects Dr. Enzle’s commitment to the education and training of graduate students undertaking research in ethics and, in particular, the protection of human participants in research.
Dr. Michael Enzle
Dr. Enzle was a member of the National Council on Ethics in Human Research where he served also as Chair of the Education Committee. He was Chair of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Stem Cell Oversight Committee, a member of the Health Canada Research Ethics Board and the PRO Group of the Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics.
Michael contributed to the development and implementation of Research Ethics Boards at the
Michael, a dedicated teacher and mentor, served as a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta for 30 years, where his academic research focused on voluntary consent, privacy issues, and power relationships. This prize has been established to commemorate both his career in research ethics and his outstanding contributions as a professor and mentor.
